CPIT are doing some great stuff with mobile phones:

They are using a mashup of springdoo, filemobile, and flickr, integrated into Moodle lms (using the Moodle 'Journal' feature - must check this out, however I think elgg may be better suited for this!) to create a mobile eportfolio system for baking apprentices. However, they still require PCs to consolidate the portfolio.
